Lady Crusaders Go Down Fighting Against Alfred State

The Lady Crusaders went on the road again for their season opener against at top USCAA team in Alfred State, NY on Saturday, September 10th. Alfred State kicked off the match with an intense attack on Christendom's defensive line and scored 2 quick goals within the first 8 minutes of the game.

Christendom was hit with a large blow the first few minutes when they lost their starting striker, Mary-Grace Handy, to a badly sprained ankle. The Lady Crusaders offense struggled against Alfred State's stiff defense, especially without Mary-Grace. Alfred State continued to create several offensive opportunities throughout the rest of the half and scored a third goal late in the first half to go up 3-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Christendom's offense continually struggled to penetrate Alfred's State's defensive line, ending the game with only 2 unsuccessful shots on goal from freshman Anna Solitario and sophomore Gemma Youngman. Alfred State's defense and a very limited number of subs made it very hard for the Crusaders to keep up the endurance throughout the rest of the game.

The defensive line allowed 2 more goals, to end the game at 5-0, Alfred State. Goalkeeper Madeline Hill, who led the USCAA in save percentage last year, had great performance, completing a total of 9 saves. The game was tough but the Lady Crusaders did not go down without a fight.

The Lady Crusaders will play their next game at home on Tuesday September 13th, at 5 p.m. against Trinity University.
