Lady Crusaders Win Home Opener

Lady Crusaders Win Home Opener

The Lady Crusaders played their first home game of the season with a face off against Trinity University on Tuesday, September 13th.

The game started off with a vigorous fight from the Lady Crusaders as they possessed the ball on the field and created multiple opportunities to score. Caelan Burgess tested the keeper early with 2 shots on goal in the 10th and 15th minutes of the game, and Catherine Gaetano, after being set up by her teammates for a goal scoring opportunity was called off-sides after burying the ball in back of the net in the 42nd minute. Trinity returned the battle with 4 unsuccessful shots on goal in the first half. The score remained 0-0 at the half.

In the second half, the battle continued as both teams struggled to possess the ball and create goal scoring opportunities due to stiff defense. The Lady Crusader's defense was able to shut down the offensive attack by Trinity most of the time, allowing only 2 shots on goal. At the same time, Christendom's midfield was able to get several through balls for 7 more shots on goal from Anna Solitario, Gemma Youngman, Catherine Gaetano, Emily Weichert, and Anne Nelson. One of which was scored by Gemma Youngman for the win in the 87th minute! Gemma came in to finish off the goal with a rebound off of the goalkeeper's diving save from a previous shot. The game ended 1-0 Christendom.

The Lady Crusaders continue their undefeated record at home from last year and look forward to their next game against Patrick Henry College on Saturday, September 17th at 1pm.
