Front Royal, VA- The Christendom Crusaders Women's Soccer Team fell 3-0 in their season opener against Hollins University on Saturday, 8/31.
Although both teams came out aggressively, Hollins took an early lead, scoring within the first two minutes of the game, forcing the Crusaders to take a more defensive approach to the game. Despite giving up two more goals in the first half, the Crusaders played with energy throughout the rest of the half. After a quick formation adjustment, the Crusaders were able to hold them off for the remaining 20 minutes of the half, which came to a close with Hollins ahead 3-0.
In the second half, the Crusaders pushed back and controlled possession of the ball. Although they were unable find the back of the net, they finished the game with 12 shots on goal as opposed to Hollins' six, with four from Colleen Kosten (Senior/Warrenton, VA), and three from Catherine Thomas (Senior/Corpus Christi, TX) and Maria Blank (Sophomore/Woodbridge, VA). The effort put forth by the Crusaders resulted in a second half shutout, ending the game with a 3-0 loss. The Crusaders' performance in the second half provided a display of promise for the remainder of the season.
