
Chambersburg, PA – The Christendom Crusaders Women's Soccer Team travelled to Penn State Mont Alto, bringing home an 8-1 victory over the Penn State Mont Alto Nittany Lions on Saturday, 9/7.
The game got off to a slow start with neither team scoring until the 17th minute of the half, when Grace Hatley (Freshman/Grand Rapids, MI) found the back of the net assisted by Catherine Thomas (Senior/Corpus Christi, TX). Twelve minutes later, Theresa Luckey (Sophomore/Front Royal, VA) was able to capitalize on the chaos caused by a corner kick from Miranda Keller (Senior/Harrisburg, PA). In the 33rd minute, Ava Hudson (Freshman/Manassas, VA) was fouled in the box and confidently sent her penalty kick past the outstretched hands of Mont Alto's goalkeeper and into the net, increasing the Crusaders' lead to 3-0. Hudson scored again three minutes later assisted by Claire Santschi (Freshman/Manassas, VA), and the first half came to a close with Christendom ahead 4-0.
Penn State came out with fire in the second half, scoring within a minute off a shot that deflected off the goalpost. The score remained 5-1 until the 60th minute, when Colleen Kosten (Senior/Warrenton, VA) scored an unassisted goal. Eight minutes later, Luckey connected with another corner kick from Keller, scoring her second goal of the game. Santschi scored the Crusaders' seventh goal of the game in the 72nd minute. The Crusaders continued to dominate possession of the ball, keeping control of the game as the second half progressed. Hudson earned a hat trick, scoring her third goal of the game in the 83rd minute. The Crusaders finished the game strong with 26 shots during the game, 18 of which were on goal. The final score of the game was 8-1, with the Crusaders bringing home their second season win.
