Front Royal, VA - The Christendom Crusaders Women's Soccer Team gained their first conference win against the Central Penn Knights in a 3-0 victory on Saturday, 9/21.
Both teams came out with hustle and determination, but it quickly became apparent that the Crusaders would control the possession and pace of the game. Keeping the ball in their offensive half, the Crusaders fired off shot after shot, but the Knights' goalkeeper remained solid. The Crusaders continued to knock at the door, resulting in a goal by Catherine Thomas (Senior/Corpus Christi, TX) off a textbook give-and-go pass from Miranda Keller (Senior/Harrisburg, PA) in the 24th minute. Three minutes later, Claire Santschi (Freshman/Manassas, VA) extended the Crusader lead to 2-0 with a header goal off a corner kick from Keller. Although neither team scored for the remainder of the half, the Crusaders peppered Central Penn's keeper with 22 shots and the half closed with the Crusaders up 2-0.
In the second half, Christendom continued to dominate, taking 10 more shots to increase their shot count to 32. One of these found the back of the net off the foot of Thomas assisted by Georgia Francis (Senior/Front Royal, VA) in the 56th minute. The Crusaders and Knights finished out the game strong with a 3-0 Crusader victory. Thomas led the game in scoring with her two goals and Keller led in assists with her two.
