Crusader's Battle Against Number 3 Ranked Team for Season Finish

On Monday, October 12, the Christendom Men’s soccer team played their last home game of the season in front of a mass of cheering fans.  Their opponent was 3rd ranked University of Maine Fort Kent, at 4:30pm on Crusader Fields.  Christendom came into the game with a 9-1-1 record and was ranked 7th in the USCAA, the highest any Christendom men’s team has been ranked.

The two time defending USCAA National Champion Runner-Up UMFK Bengals came out firing right away, after an initial stalemate, the score was 2-0 at the 20 minute mark.  The Christendom men put up a solid defense for the rest of the half however, and when the whistle blew for halftime, the score was still 2-0 in favor of the Bengals.

When both teams took to the field for the second half, it was a similar story to that of the first.  UMFK scored two quick goals within 15 minutes, putting the score at 4-0.  However, instead of being shutout for the rest of the half as had happened in the first half, the Bengals kept pounding the ball in the attack.  Their relentless efforts proved fruitful, and they were able to put three more goals past the exhausted Christendom defense.

By the final whistle, score of the game was 7-0 in favor of the visiting University of Maine Fort Kent Bengals.  The Bengals left Christendom afterwards with a 12-2 record and a solid bid at winning the National Championship this year, while Christendom dropped to a 9-2-1 record.

The Christendom men play their last two games of the season on Thursday, October 15, at Washington Adventist University, and on Saturday, October 17, at #1 ranked West Virginia Tech.
