Tough Match Up Ends a Tie for Men's Soccer

The Crusaders hosted Gallaudet University for the first time in 3 years. At the start of the game, the Crusaders came out firing. In the 4th minute, Junior Derek Casey took a shot from the 18 yard line that went through the hands of the diving goalie, allowing the Crusaders to gain the lead, 1-0. The Crusaders were in control of the ball the entire first half. They had a few very close opportunities from Stephen Foeckler and Sean Salmon. In the closing minutes of the first half, Derek Casey had an amazing shot that just missed the bottom left of the goal.

In the second half, Gallaudet had a breakaway goal to tie the game 1-1. After a penalty give to the Crusaders, Sean Salmon’s shot on goal was blocked by the goalie but the ball fell to the foot of Pat Audino. Unfortunately the sideline referee called an off sides penalty to keep the score 1-1.  After another free kick that the goalie blocked, freshman Peter Day tapped in the goal for the Crusaders to go up2-1. The Gallaudet team played really tough and did not give up. They controlled the ball and when the ball was played across the face of the net, an unlucky touch by a Christendom player put the ball into the back of the net.

The Next Crusader Men’s game is Saturday September 12 at Mid-Atlantic Christian University.
