Enola, PA – The Christendom College Crusaders dominated the Central Penn College Knights on the road, securing an impressive 85-50 victory in Eastern States Athletic Conference (ESAC) women's basketball action on the evening of Thursday, February 6th. The game was not only a triumph for the Crusaders but also a monumental moment in the career of senior forward Miranda Keller (Senior/Harrisburg, PA), who reached an incredible milestone by scoring her 1000th career point.
Keller, wearing the number 33 jersey, reached the 1000-point mark in the second quarter, with the Crusaders' 33rd point of the game. As the ball went through the net, the crowd erupted into applause, with Keller being recognized during the next time-out. Her achievement was especially heartfelt, as family, local friends, former high school team, former coaches, and even some of her current classmates who made the trip to watch the game joined in the celebration.
The senior forward's performance was nothing short of spectacular as she also earned a double-double, contributing 10 points and 11 rebounds to the Crusaders' commanding victory. Keller's leadership and consistent presence on the court have been a hallmark of her career, and tonight's game was a fitting celebration of her accomplishments.
Point guard Mary Pennefather (Sophomore/Manassas,VA) put on an offensive show, finishing the game with a stellar double-double of her own. Pennefather scored 29 points and dished out 11 assists, continuing her role as one of the team's offensive catalysts. Her playmaking and scoring ability were key to the Crusaders building a comfortable lead throughout the contest.
The Crusaders' offensive attack was further supported by strong performances from Catherine Thomas (Senior/Corpus Christi, TX) and Regina Bonvissuto (Senior/Kingston Springs, TN). Thomas scored 20 points, providing much-needed scoring depth, while Bonvissuto added 16 points, helping to ensure that the Crusaders maintained control of the game.
Christendom's defense also played a pivotal role in the victory, as the Crusaders' tenacious play forced the Knights into difficult situations, causing 17 turnovers throughout the game. The Crusaders' balance between offense and defense proved to be too much for Central Penn to handle.
With this win, Christendom College improves to a strong record on the season, showcasing both individual brilliance and team cohesion. For Keller, the night was a fitting celebration of her outstanding career as she etched her name in Crusader history, while the rest of the team demonstrated greatness in both scoring and team play.
