Student-athletes from Christendom’s men’s and women’s basketball teams earned numerous awards from the USCAA and Eastern States Athletic Conference (ESAC) following their remarkable 2023-24 seasons, as announced by both organizations. Men’s basketball star John Paul Vander Woude was named the USCAA DII Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Year, while two members of the women’s basketball team earned All-American honors and ten total players earned Academic All-American honors.
The Christendom Crusaders (14-10) defeated the Manor Blue Jays (12-9) 85-75 on Saturday, March 16, winning the ESAC Championship and ending their season on a five game winning streak.
On Saturday, February 24, the Crusaders earned an exciting 75-65 comeback victory over the Manor College Blue Jays to claim the regular season Conference Title.
Christendom Crusaders men’s basketball (11-10) bested the Mid-Atlantic Christian University Mustangs (6-16) 71-61 on their Senior Day game Saturday, February 17th, in which they honored seniors John Paul Vander Woude, Peter Ethridge, and Andrew Heisler.
The Christendom men’s basketball team defeated the Regent Royals 82-55 on Thursday, January 18. John Paul Vander Woude (Senior/Nokesville, VA) scored his 1000th point in the victory.
The Crusaders traveled to Pennsylvania over the weekend and won two tough ESAC matchups, defeating the Bucks County Centurions 70-68 and the Central Penn Knights 75-74.
The Crusaders traveled away this past Saturday, January 14, to take on the Appalachian Bible Warriors. After a well fought match between the two teams the Crusaders were victorious, by a toon of 63-54. With the win the Crusader inch ever closer to .500 advancing to 4-5 on the season.
With fall sports wrapping up their seasons, the basketball season lies just around the corner. Both the men’s and women’s teams had winning records last year, with the women going 13-5 and the men going 10-8. With a packed schedule beginning this Tuesday, November 15, both teams are aiming to build on — and exceed — last season’s successes.
Christendom College will welcome back alumni and friends of Christendom for the thirteenth annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, October 10. The event, held this year at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Front Royal, Virginia, raises funds for the Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Scholarship, which supports student-athletes at Christendom each year.
Christendom College's Athletics Department announced on Wednesday, July 6 the college's fall sports schedule, which begins on Saturday, August 27 with a men’s and women's soccer double header vs Frederick Community College.
Josh Pabst and Megan Lovar have been named Christendom’s Thomas S. Vander Woude Athletic Scholarship winners for the Class of 2026. Recognized for their athletic ability and how they have showed Christ-like leadership and heartfelt service through sports and in the classroom, both Pabst and Lovar will play “for the love of the game and the glory of God” when they arrive on campus this fall.
Senior Owen Kennedy has faced many challenges on rugby fields and basketball courts over the past four years. Tough opponents, six am workouts, the balance of school and athletic demands — the list goes on. But his greatest challenge may have come before he even started college, when he faced an issue many Catholic high schoolers can relate to: where could he both learn and also thrive as a Catholic? School after school failed to meet those criteria. Finally, after praying for guidance, he found what he was looking for at Christendom, where he has been able to study mathematics, win a National Championship in rugby, grow in virtue, and impact the school for the better.
Historic seasons came to a close for the men’s and women’s basketball teams this past week, with the women finishing with one of their best seasons in school history. The men’s team finished with back-to-back wins as well, giving them a strong winning season punctuated by incredible performances from several players.
Front Royal, VA- The Crusaders honored seniors Owen Kennedy (Senior/ Mount Vision, NY) and Jack Hofbauer (Senior/ Woodcliff Lake, NJ) as the Crusaders picked up a win against the Sentinels of Patrick Henry by a score of 91-51.
Front Royal, VA – On Friday, February 11, the Crusader Men’s Basketball team brought in their sixth win of the season, defeating the Appalachian Bible Warriors, 81-70.
Clifton Forge, VA- The Crusaders went on the road to take on the Roadrunners of Dabney S. Lancaster C.C. in a rematch from December 7, 2021. The Roadrunners won the first match by 11, but the Crusaders got their revenge in a 69-68 thriller.
